Saad is older, signed for fewer years, has a higher cap hit, and is not an upgrade over Johnnson. I know there are a lot of Leafs fans that don't like Johnnson, but as a rookie last year he had 20 goals and 43 points. He's signed at a reasonable cap hit for the next 3.5 years, I don't get why so many people want to trade him.

Because he's not that good, hasn't been noticed that he's not in the line up, pretty much every winger that slots next to Matthews and Nylander will get 40 or so points. Saad has nasty side that will create space for Matthews and Nylander

Saad has a nasty side? He's never had more than 20 PIMS in a season. Has 0 NHL fights. He's thrown 24 hits in 34 games this year. I don't think the Leafs would have any interest in Johnnson for Saad straight up. If any winger that slots next to Matthews and Nylander is going to get 40 points then why trade Johnnson for Saad, why not plug anyone else you have in that spot and trade Johnnson to fill another need? I think the Leafs management does thing Johnnson is good or they wouldn't have signed him to a 4 year contract 6 months ago. I'm not sure what games you're watching if you think the Matthews line has been just as good the last 5 games without Johnnson as they were with him. Of the two wingers that have filled that role, Aberg was sent to the minors and Kapanen is being ripped by pretty much everyone for not being a good fit with them.
