The Detroit trade won't happen. Yzerman is rebuilding through the draft so he isn't going to trade away picks.

yzerman needs to do more than just draft players. he needs nhl players. it's a low risk move for him giving up wsh 2nd and a 3rd for a goalie that could end up be his starter for the next 10 seasons. georgiev could end up making a GM look great sooner than later.

georgiev is 23, it's not like he is older. he would still be apart of the rebuild. i think the trade makes total sense.

Detroit has missed the playoffs 3 seasons in a row 4 at the end of this season. The Rangers have missed 2 and 3 at the end of this season. The last time the Wings missed the playoffs before this stretch was in the 1989-90 season. 25 straight seasons of buying a the TDL decimated their prospect pipeline. Detroit didn't have a 1st round pick in 10 of those seasons. In 2004 they didn't have a pick until the 3rd round and 1999 there first pick was in the 4th round. Their rebuild in it's 3rd year which is actually not that bad or long.

Ok that's good but in his most recent interview Yzerman said he is rebuilding through the draft and free agency and he also said he'd he would like to acquire more picks. So trading picks isn't going to happen. I'm not saying I don't want Georgiev it would be nice to have but I'm just telling you what Yzerman has said.
