If Canada was forced to select their roster today for 2022, I believe this is the team they take. A mix of veterans and youth, speed and grit. A lot of fire power, a lot of guys who know how to win.
Forwards: VERY tough choices. A lot of great players left off. As for extras, Tavares can play wing and Towes center. Both can be moved up and down the lineup. Under consideration: Hall, Couturier, Seguin, Benn, Couture, Staal, RNH, Reinhart, Huberdeau, Gallagher, Duchene, Point, Perron, Konecny.
Defense: also a difficult choice. I selected a good mix of youth and vets. There were certainly a few off the list that played well in the past. But remember, this is being selected NOW for 2022. Under consideration: Hamilton, Weber, Letang, Ekblad, Keith, Ellis, Sanheim, Burns.
Goalies: the easy part was selecting Price to start. The hard part was selecting the backups. I chose Binnington as he recently won a cup and knows big games at a young age. I selected Hart as the third as he is the up and comer and will have more experience in 2022. Under consideration: Fleury, Holtby, Murray
Down the road, it's hard for the management team, if they were to select their players now, to pick players such as Bergeron because he will almost be 37 years old. I think you could see players such as Dubois make it, or possibly even Lafreniere. I don't see Giordano, Doughty, Burns making it either.
I agree with you on Bergeron. But I don’t know if they want to go a full changing of the guard yet. Doughty will be only 32 or 33 then (which is hard to believe). I don’t think Burns makes it. Will be fun to see how they pick it though! I posted a USA team a few days ago....these two teams would match up pretty well
I’m trying to publish a team every few days. I did the USA, then Canada today (roughly the same title). Russia just came out now. Sweden by Thursday! Wanted to start debates with my twin!
And if they could just do the World Cup, I would be happier. But I would love to have the Olympics and World Cup spread apart every two years. That really would be something!
