Why would Tampa give up Point+Johnson for 2 years of Johnny Gaudreau. It's been widely reported that Gaudreau is going home either to Philly or New Jersey when his contract is up. Doubt he has any interest in Tampa and visa versa. Tampa easily declines.

Tampa declines... Point is a no go... they will trade others before him.

A lot of arm chair GMs do not know that Point is Tampa's 1C. I am surprised by it actually as you have probably seen in other posts I have made on here.

Yes, I am aware that Point is TB’s 1C. But I’m also aware that TB is in a major cap crunch and possibly facing offer sheets (that they can’t match) on both Cirelli and Sergachev, plus has a boatload of NTCs to navigate.

Obviously TB would prefer not trading Point. I’m thinking about it, like others are as well, in terms of TB getting a package that keeps them at the top of the league. A line of Gaudreau / Stamkos / Kucherov is equally potent to Point up the middle.

You really think Gaudreau would be upset about 2 years of earning money in Florida’s taxes while playing on a line with Stamkos and Kucherov before he hits UFA and heads back closer to home? Cmon.

Your point that TB isn’t getting a long term contract is valid. But Gaudreau can still be traded beforehand to NJ or PHI for a big package.
