Salary Cap Mode: Basic

Description

Tough go for the Hawks if the ceiling stays the same, a raise would allow them to go after one of a few UFAs like Barrie, Vatanen, DeMelo, Namestnikov, etc. with more cap space.

1. Buyout both Smith and Maatta with the buyout to Smith taking priority
2. Seabrook and Shaw remain on LTIR
3. Re-sign Strome (bridge deal similar to Max Domi and Sam Reinhart)
4. Re-sign Kubalik (bridge deal similar to William Karlsson)
5. Re-sign Caggiula (one year due to injury history)
6. Offer contract to Corey Crawford and Dylan DeMelo
7. Chalupa makes the team because his name makes me laugh

Overall, defense becomes younger and more mobile while goaltending takes a hit with the departure of Lehner. Will probably only see the playoffs if DeBrincat bounces back, if Boqvist, Dach, Mitchell, and Strome take strides, and if Crawford remains consistant.

Demelo will get between 3-4 million. Kubalik should get more around 3-3.5 on a 1 year deal. I think you could trade Maatta, but Smith you probably couldn't trade unless you added in something. Crow will not make 6 next year he'll probably get around 4.

Definitely makes more sense to buyout Smith than trade w sweetners IMO. Definitely guessed higher on the Crow + Kuby deals given Bowman's tendency to overpay, but I'll definitely take DeMelo at 3-4 million.
