i think this is a bit much just to move up 4 picks

No no wasn’t including all those pieces was just presenting pieces was willing to negotiate with since lacked draft capital to offer.

Fair enough who do you have your eye on? Quinn is my winger of choice but to land him I wouldn’t be surprised need to do something like this as well.

Good question. I have a few guys I like, I'm not super opinionated at that point in the draft: Holloway, Jarvis, Amirov are all viable options. I'm not fond enough of Quinn to move up in the draft, but if he falls to 14 I'd consider him. Lots of Oilers fans want Lundell because they think he could slot into 3C as early as next season, I'm not sure I'd pick him over say Jarvis but I'd be perfectly happy if the Oilers select him. Askarov would be okay depending on who else was available - I'd take him over Mercer, Lapierre or pretty much any defenseman.

Basically there's a bunch of guys in the 10-16 range, and I'd be happy with most of them.

The only way I'd move up to #10 is if one of the top 7 forwards* drops that far, but then #10 is likely to be untouchable in that case.

* I consider the top 7 forwards to be Lafreniere, Byfield, Stutzle, Rossi, Raymond, Perfetti and Holtz.

Ya I don’t see any of them sliding to 10 but who really knows with a class like this. Ottawa has two very high picks and in five years from now they could look brilliant for off the board picks with the two guys playing junior in their back yard. I know unlikely but this class seems like a unique that could end up going unexpectedly unlike most years. Jarvis is a guy I looked at a fair bit and would be thrilled with too. Mercer was the first guy that caught my eye I was wanting be happy with. I’m still fond of the idea of the goalie not as sold as you might be on what we have but I completely respect the difference in opinion there. I definitely think the wild card in all of it that plays a pretty significant factor is JP. Knowing exactly what is going on there would help tremendously in draft decisions. I don’t blame holland for it at all but those mid season deals accompanied by the leagues questionable decision on giving flames that 3rd really puts a lot of pressure on that first pick. Thanks for your inputs always enjoy hearing other oilers fans opinions on this stuff.

Hard to compare Askarov and Konovalov because Askarov played minor pro as a 17 year old this year, whereas Konovalov played junior as a 17 year old and didn't play minor pro until 19. Nevertheless, here are their 16 year old stats:

Konovalov: 1.52 GAA, 0.933 sv% in MHL-B
Askarov: 2.37 GAA, 0.921 sv% in MHL

At 17:
Konovalov: 1.59 GAA, 0.927 sv% in MHL
Askarov: 2.45 GAA, 0.920 sv% in VHL

As for having a high opinion of Konovalov, did you know he posted a 1.89 GAA and 0.930 sv% in 45 games in the 2nd best hockey league in the world as a 20-year-old? That's phenomenal.

Honestly I kinda feel a bit foolish because I do follow the oilers prospects just never really him and never really looked too closely you really opened my eyes on that thank you. Suddenly I feel a lot more at peace with current situation. I had high hopes for skinner but that’s came down a lot only one I was really considering is that Rodrigue kid as good as he looks kinda feels a lot has to go right for him to end up that guy for us which is why I was feeling desperate this draft to add there but you really opened my eyes on admittedly foolish one for me to look past. Doesn’t he play for the same team as berglund?

Denezhkin is in the same organization as Konovalov, although he only got into 1 KHL game last season. I hope to see him get a few more next year, but I expect him to spend most of the season in the VHL (KHL's minor pro farm league).

Berglund will be in the SHL next year.
