Realistic Disappointment

Created by: JBoogey
Team: 2020-21 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 16, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In my humble opinion, this is exactly what us Wild fans should expect when we hear a GM say that major changes need to take place.

We should also expect that with the 9th pick, the Wild will select a solid, responsible, 2-way player, with streaky flashes of skill. These flashes of skill will never come consistently. This player will get top six minutes with us, get traded halfway through his second contract (for picks that we can use to select some more solid, well rounded players), and wind up on a good teams third line.

As for the rest of your description, there will be a lot of teams looking to shake things up this offseason. Poile, Bowman, and Rutherford are notorious for being trigger-happy with trades, but I think Toronto has to do something to address their blue line this offseason and Tampa needs to figure out a way to shed cap. Similarly, Buffalo has a new GM and may want to start putting a mark on his team and Winnipeg really needs help on the blue line. I trust Guerin not to make rash decisions as he has proven over the course of this past year he doesn't make trades unless he feels it will improve this team.

I like and agree with your take here. I actually really like Guerin as well. I hope he’s able to find a trade or two, and that the team does not end up looking like this one lol. That being said, it’s hard for me to be optimistic!

Have faith in Guerin, he's said and done all of the right things so far. If this is the team going into next year, I think there would have to be a good reason for that (as in Guerin couldn't find a trade that made sense for us).

It does feel weird, though, having this much trust in a GM
