Description
Alot of Leafs haters thought Dubas couldn't get a late first round pick for Kapanen, much less a lottery pick and he did. Johnsson can fetch at least a second rounder if not a very late first round pick. If Sandin is NHL ready I think Dermott is expendable. I don't see him as more than a 5/6 defensemen as with a future of Rielly-Schneider, Sandin-Liljegren he is a player they can live without. Plus bottom pairing dmen aren't that hard to find and we still haven't seen Lehtonen yet. Schneider is the prototypical dman the Leafs really need, and will take 2-3 years of development, but they fill a big void at the cost of a top 9 forward. If the Leafs weren't in cap helll I'd like to see both Kapanen and Kadri for that matter on this team, but they just aren't getting it done in the first round and they need a different approach. I like the toughness and grit both Tanev and Gudas bring; good IQ, good D, good puck protection and movement, blocking shots. Tanev's injuries are a concern, and with Vancouver's run he might stay there, although they have their own cap issues going forward. This team won't win a cup, but they might get to the second round. With development of their prospects especially on the back end they should be a contender in 2-3 years.

4th line is looking a little weak and pairings would probably be

Rielly-Tanev
Muzzin-Lehtonen
Sandin-Gudas

Not a bad dcore with a new, young d prospect but the 4th line is pretty bad

idk if edmonton gives up that much for Holl, 3rd seems a little steep for him. Regardless, I think spezza takes 700K and with minimal extra guys on the roster, you can prob nab a decent free agent vet like Maroon or Thompson, cause ya, that 4th line is sus af

Perhaps, but I like Kapanen's game and still think he has upside at only 24. Rutherford has helped the team with back to back cups which is something I'd take in Toronto, even if it means giving up all those first round picks. Look at Chicago and Detroit; you can't have competitive teams forever.

idk, I'd like to see what Korshkov can do in the NHL. He's 24 now, who can score a goal here and there. I think Engvall is really overpaid.

true, he could be an option. also yeah, engvall was on pace for 40 pts and then after he got his contract he just fell off a cliff lmao

Guy is making 1.25M and you're calling him overpaid, Leafs fans really living in a fantasy expecting the whole 4th line to make league min

Considering Hyman makes only a million more, yes he's overpaid by what he brings to the team. He disappeared after his contract was signed.

Dont think EDM gives up that for Holl. And our RHDs (Bear, Benning, Larsson, Bouchard) are already pretty solid and Holl would probably be below Larsson.
