Pesce is not the savior everyone seems to think he is. The best thing about him is his contract. His defensive skills are limited and his results without Slavin show he's not a top-pair guy.

Murray is a disaster waiting to happen. That's a major downgrade in goal. Not sure this team is better next year.

Dude, you're lucky that I'm the Hurricanes fan that caught you saying that about Pesce. Any other fan would rip you to pieces. If the Leafs acquire Brett Pesce, he becomes their best asset on their blue line. Whether or not he is the best PLAYER on the blue line is, in my opinion, a coin toss. But he has the defensive skills that Toronto desperately needs you are simply wrong when you say he lacks defense, he's young, his contract is N I C E, and he brings a nasty side that the Leafs haven't had since...Kadri?

I mean, thanks for being polite. I just don't agree. None of Pesce's results show that he is defensively sound. The Canes gave up more shots and scoring chances with him on the ice then without him this year. That, to me, is the opposite of being good at defence. Sure, there's always teammate effects, but very good defenders are always able to suppress shots. Pesce isn't. You can like him, and the team can like him, but I don't see him being a top-pair guy and for what the trade would have to be, the Leafs would overpay. He might be more valuable to Carolina than to other teams.

The Leafs do have nasty players, and even defensively responsible players. Their defence showed quite well in the playoffs. The prevailing wisdom on here that the Leafs are soft and can't play D has been shown to be wrong, but it takes time for people to change their opinions.
