Colorado 2021

Initial Creation Date: Sep. 21, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hall - Maybe at 2 years and allow to hit FA when possible increase in salary cap (selling point)

Haula - Think would be a great addition at 3C as Compher is not the answer and I think he needs to be moved on

Shutdown defenseman is our final aim. Now I don't know much about this tbh but Martinez has a great all round game, adding points and getting in the way of the puck. I did consider Andy Greene but 37 was a bit too old.

Maybe other players to look at:
Evander Kane - A line with him, Landy and Kadri would be pretty brutal
Mike Hoffman - Certainly knows where the goal is
Hjalmarsson - One of the best shutdown defenceman (or was)

My hockey knowledge is definitely not up there with the best as being from the UK, I don't follow as much as my North American counterparts.

So Vegas gives us Alex Martinez for nothing after they just traded for him?

Cole at $4,250,000 sitting in the stands?

Compher on LTIR for some reason?

I think you’re RFA contract values are a little on the low end. I think Hall on a 2 yr deal would be sweet but I think it would have to be more than $8 probably closer to $9.5 maybe even $10.

Generally speaking I like the idea of a shut down guy, which is probably why they have been linked to Hjalmarsson so I don’t think Martinez is necessarily the guy there. What did you envision they would do with Zadorov?

A capfriendly user today said there were reports Hjalmarsson isn’t moving his NTC, but I agree he’d be a decent fit if he still has any gas in the tank.

Not sure if you’d want Kane on COL. That line would be a real tough one, but his contract is a bit steep for Colorado, and Burakovsky has been really good in a top 6 role.

Contracts wise Nichushkin and Burakovsky get a bit more I think. Maybe $1.25M to $2M between the two?

I think they try to move Zadorov tbh and bring someone in on the PK to replace him as that is an issue we have as the team take a lot of stupid penalties and get punished.

Who else as a shutdown guy can the Avs target?

I think the Kane contract would be a bit much but would be nice to see the 3 together and he certainly knows how to score.

Hjalmarsson is coming off the worst year in his career so that maybe a sign that he can't do the job as well as he used to. Who is an alternative that we could aim for?

Good job on reading the description.

Also, VGK were challenging for the playoffs and Martinez will likely have been a rental so likely the only reason they signed him.

That’s tough because all of the obvious candidates have an issue. Sure Pietrangelo would be nice but are you really going to be able to fit him in their current cap structure? Probably not. Big Buff would be interesting but is he even ready to play? Personally I like Cernak from Tampa but I don’t see Sakic OS him.

Off the top of my head in no particular order: Adam Larsson, Patrick Nemeth, Matt Roy, Calvin De Hann, Connor Murphy, Tanev, Jenson, and maybe Columbus can be convinced to move Savard.

All of these guys vary in availability, or cost to acquire, as well as being more of a top 4 guy to a bottom 5/6 player, but like I said they’re just a few random names I came up with.
