An other 2021 scenario if everyone resigns v2

Created by: pinslack
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 25, 2020
Published: Sep. 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Petry Weber & Chiarot protected. Whole 4th line exposed. Mete chosen by Seattle

Alzner bought out

Armia resigns instead of Tatar (he'd sign 5.25m 4 y on market)

KK has a good year and receives a bridge deal

2022 : Romanov, Suzuki, Primeau & Evans are RFA with 11,2m left.

Let's say Suzuki receives a bridge at 3,5m & Romanov 2m, Primeau 1,5m & Evans 1m (=8m). 18/23 with 3.2m left. Ylonen + Norlinder make the team + 2 minimum salaries = 22/23 full cap. Kinda tight. If Seattle goes for Edmundson instead of Mete, +1.7m would make it easier. Byron could be sent somewhere for his last year too.

If KK and Suzuki both have good years when the contracts come they will be 8 years not bridge deals. These are stars Hopefully they can look at the contracts in 5 years like we’re looking at Mackinnons now. Massive steal

Young players don’t sign 8 year deals anymore. Only 3 players under 25 have signed 8 year deals since October 2017. It seems like more players are going for the bridge or the 5 year deal.

Anyways, unless he has a ridiculous season, I’d expect KK to sign a 1 or 2 year bridge after this season, just because of the potential for growth, and how he played this past season.

Only the ex ARI GM Chayka really went all in on its young players, giving them 6-7-8 years deal after their ELC. Not a popular trend

I do think it was mostly the players pushing for the shorter deals, but you certainly don’t want to give long term deals to the non top tier players.
