You’ve got yourself a deal (if Danault re-signs)

Winnipeg would have no interest in Mete as they have plenty of bottom pairing defensema. And he adds no value to the trade. Caufield is a winger which is the last thing the Jets need and Danault is a rental, which is a non-starter. So, this deal misses on value and team needs for the Jets, so they say no.

Jets would have a year to resign Danault. And could easily agree to a deal before the trade. Caufield could end up being better than Laine. Jets need D... Mete still has some potential to grow. Change of scenery could help. If not, he’s good depth.

Caulfield being even half as good as Laineis a long shot. Caufield is 19 and still not in the NHL. At 19 Laine was scoring 44 goals in the NHL following up his 36 goal, 18 year old season. Danault can't sign an extension until next summer, so he is a rental no matter how you look at it and Mete has zero value. Sorry, the Jets want a 2C and a top 4RHD both with term. This doesn't give them that.

Just because Laine was better at 19 doesn’t mean he’ll always be better ... Laine was better than Point at 19 but is that case now ? Danault would fit perfect with the Jets in my opinion.

You can simply says... whatever the price I AM NOT TRADING LAINE... because value for value- it is there.
after it is all personal point of view of what you prefer as a fan... and I agree I prefer a 6'5'' 40G+ 22 yo winger night after night as in that trade.. he is the best player no doubt.
But again... value is there

No again, the value is not there and the fit is not there. Rentals don't carry as much value as you think they do. What we think doesn't really matter as we aren't making the trades. I'm just letting you know what the Jets have said they are looking for if someone asks for Laine.

Not at the cost of Laine. For a reasonable cost Danault would be okay, but not for Laine.

Yes, a late first, but nothing near Laine's skill or quality. Danault is a good player, just not as the main piece for a high end, young, first line winger.

But you’re also getting a 1st and Caufield who is a legit
NHL prospect and then add Danault as a rental with the potential to resign. I get Jets need a D but this also gives them more cap flexibility to do that. Jets get their centre even if it is for a year, a top prospect, a first , a young depth D and cap space.

If the Jets are trading Laine, it is to fill holes. Not fill a small hole at center for one year by creating a larger hole long term at wing. A first and a wing prospect don't compensate for that.

Use your cap space to fill the D hole .... and Danault is a UFA next year .. he can be signed so they can have a deal in place before the trade. You can start negotiating with players with 1 year left when free agency starts...

You are correct on the contract. However, there is still no incentive for Winnipeg to make the trade. They're far better of keeping Laine for 3 years than trading him for this. Sorry, it just doesn't work for Winnipeg.

Laine only has 1 more year on his contract and he’s gonna want 9++ which the Jets won’t do. I mean if there is a deal out there where they can get a 2C and a legit top 4 D for Laine than great, take it but this gives them weapons they can use now including cap space to fill the D hole and then a stud prospect who will be cheap on his ELC. Not to mention another good prospect with the 1st. This gives the Jets so many possibilities. Plus Danault who is a great defensive centre and can produce. He’d fit in perfect with the Jets.

The Jets own Laine's rights for 3 more years and there have been no reports on what he wants or what Winnipeg is willing to offer on a contract so all that is BS. Danault is okay, very good defensively, but bad offensively, so not an ideal 2C. Plus he was passed by 2 meh rookies and is whining about it, so he does seem to have attitude problems.

You can believe what you want, but Winnipeg isn't going to make a deal like this where it makes the Jets worse in the short and long term. This offer would be just too easy for other teams to beat.
