they aren't getting more than that. maybe if he had term, but for a player with only 1 year left on his contract this is a very fair offer.

Why do people always assume he wouldn’t sign an extension prior? This isn’t the trade deadline, any deal involving Danault comes with a agreement prior to the trade for an extension. MTL likes him too much to trade him away without asking him if he would like to play for the team he gets traded to

those are hard to make and doesn't happen often. you are asking for a similar value package to what stone brought back. Gauthier is worth a late 1st. you're asking for 2 first rounders for a player any team can get for free in 1 season.

You’re saying that as if Danault would actually walk in free agency or as if Bergevin wouldn’t trade him the deadline if he thought he would. Fact is, Danault loves playing here and the team/fans love him too. He’s not getting moved unless its really worth it

i agree with you.

the offer above isn't worthless. you would be getting a cost controlled forward with top 6 potential and a first round pick in a deep draft. the habs are probably better off keeping him if they can re-sign him affordably. although, if they would to move him the above deal is fair.

for what it's worth, i doubt the rangers are looking to move Gauthier. we recently gave up one of our best prospects for him.
