Holl was actually decent on the second pair last year. Yes obviously he isn't the best 2nd pairing defenceman in the league, but he isn't terrible. He had 18 points in 69 games and a +13 rating. His defensive stats were also solid and he can log up to 20 minutes a nigh. He is not a terrible defenceman, he just isn't the best. I don't think the leafs can afford someone better anyway.

But I agree that Engvall has no place on the 2nd line and Mikheyev should be there. I'm not sure what happened to him in this post but apparently he must have died in the offseason or something

he looked slow against CBJ and even worse after muzzin got worse i think he solid bottom pair if he needs to play up for a few games for injury ok. 20 min is to much. If the can get an upgrade for cheap the should. imo

Ya well there aren't many cheap 2nd pairing guys in the league right now who aren't on ELC. Matt Roy would be like the only one and I'm not sure LA is willing to move him. If you want someone better who is on an ELC and who can play on the 2nd pair, your going to have to give up at least a 1st round pick for them and likely a couple of decent forwards as well (Mikheyev, Kerfoot, maybe even Dermott if the team wants a LHD).

ya definately a third pairing guy on a cup team. hoping one of lettonen, dermott or sanding step up their games into the second paring with muzzin. ya envall third liner at best. where's the soup man? mikheyev needs to be on the second line. he did well when not injured. now the leafs d looks to have some depth which they could have used when muzzin got injured in the play in series against columbus. holl in over his head when having to play top minutes against top lines.

Hamonic likely gets 3 and Gustaffson I think gets 3 as well. Hamonic is likely long term though while Gustaffson gets a one year prove it deal.
