Additional Details:

Both players are useful for the Devils. IMO they aren’t the traditional “cap dump” players. Jensen would be a better fit at 3RD than CC and Panik would be a great fit on the Devils 3rd line. Capital pay a 2nd to dump these contracts ( even though they aren’t bad IMO ...it’s flat cap and this benefits Washington more than the Devils)

Even though Sprong has a smaller sample size, I'd rather take a flier on him at his current cap hit than give up a 2nd. His possession numbers are much better.

Edit: especially if we are already giving up a 2nd to dump contracts. That would be fine to do if NJD accepts, but I wouldn't want to give up 2nds in back to back years. If Caps flame out again in 20-21, could be staring down the barrel of a rebuild sooner than people think. Or at least a large retooling.
