I enjoy how leafs fans are the only ones I have seen making teams betting on a taxi squad happening. Not saying it won't happen, but I have seen next to no other group of fans make taxi squad teams. I wouldn't bank on it so hard if I were you.

I suspect if they do create a taxi squad system, it will simply be so that teams can have a practice squad that stays with the NHL team ready for a paper transaction call up if their AHL franchise is not in the same city, to avoid too much unnecessary COVID travel (eg., if Edmonton is unable to relocate its AHL team to Edmonton and they keep playing in Bakersfield). However, I highly doubt this will be a free ride to put players with 1 ways on the taxi without going through waivers. I think waivers will still apply, and instead of having to report to the AHL, they just practice with the NHL squad until they are brought back into the lineup.
