Fair enough - I guess if it's down to the wire and nobody wants him in the East, maybe he'd take it for a cup run. But I'm sure a team in the east will go for him, and likely for less than this since he's dictating.

oilers deadline
Yeah no point in dumping Brown for any value, the delayed bonus stays with the Oilers no matter what. Only way they can get out of some next year is with extra cap space this year (unlikely if Holland wants to go full power for a run, as he should). He either plays or can be waived, no reason doing much else.

Lindgren and Dowd are both fantastic targets for team needs - I think a very worthy combo to spend a 1st and other pieces on.

Would this be fair value
Why do you think the Oilers are aching to get rid of Ceci? At 3.25 mil, he's fine value for what he should be (a 4D). I'm sure the Oil might like to improve at RD in another Ekholm style deal where Ceci is the Barrie going out, and if they do he's probably going out with a 1st and assets just due to cap balance and since Bouch and Desharnais would be the other two RD still. But in no world would the Oilers be using an asset like Holloway to dump him.

Flyers
If Philly is in the playoff hunt I can't see this being a great trade (better cheaper goalies than Campbell available, Broberg looks great but still unproven at NHL level in terms of helping for playoffs).
I'd have to think Oilers do this - vet 3C really helps, and Seeler is a great 7D for a run. Solving those pieces while getting rid of Campbell for only a late 1st and a great but unproven prospect would be maybe a bit too good to be true.

Moving a 1st for a slight upgrade in scoring and a downgrade in energy, physicality, and chemistry just doesn’t seem worth it if you ask me. That pick can be better used to upgrade on Ceci.</div></div>
Fair enough! That does make sense. I'm just scratching my head seeing where the achievable sure upgrade on Ceci is (cap permitting), other than maybe Tanev from Cgy?

Broberg question mark
Very unclear what intentions might be for him. He's playing extremely well in the AHL. Smart management would keep him as 7D for a run and injury replacement, trade Kulak this offseason, start him on 3rd pair full time next season on his qualifying contract number (he'll have little leverage to sign anything else, especially if being offered a full time slot to win finally). Whatever trade interest there was from his agent fully died down quick, haven't heard a peep on that for a while.

NJ is the top - all well worth their current cap hits, and likely to become even more value deals being so young with their primes ahead.

All good haha. I feel the Byram contract could make sense to both sides. Worried other than that example, he might wait out the summer and allow the offer sheets to flow. As rare as they are, he sure is a prime candidate.

every bad contract
I don't think Kane's will be bad overall, last year was a tough one with the freak wrist injury. Even with that, his regular season saw a 30 goal pace, fine value at just over 5 million.
But Nurse and Campbell could be on here from the Oil.

I mean a lot of players who get signed to lower contracts don't make their team...it's a cap crunch, one of him or Ryan has to be waived if no trade. No way around it.

There is just so little room on the roster. If Virtanen is signed and Benson waived, the org is so out to lunch. Virtanen has shown no interesting element at all.

We need a cheap (at or near 750k)player to have a 21 man roster. I like Benson a lot, but Zohorna might bring a more interesting skillset on that line. Janmark or Ryan simply has to be waived unless there is a trade, at this point I'd rather waive Janmark.

Lines based on pre season so far
Can afford to keep Benson up with this roster too, which I'd do, cheap and a playing a good role as 4th line pest with some skill. In the preseason he's been better than Janmark and Ryan so far. I'd also waive Janmark at the moment over Ryan, Ryan brings better PK and faceoff ability. Definitely like the idea of 11-7 many nights, that 3rd line should play way more minutes than the average 3rd line in the league, and we know Drai and McD already flourish playing a lot of minutes.

Moving foegele isnt enough
Might be able to squeeze McLeod a bit more, he has no arb rights. Also can put Shore in A and replace with 750k for 100k, or waive Ryan down and save several 100k. Also don't need a 23 man roster, 22 is fine until an injury hits.

I think there would be a lot of 11 and 7 with this lineup, I agree Broberg will get in most of the time - but wouldn't be surprised if a vet comes to camp and starts in that spot, making Broberg win it throughout the season.
Also I agree Rodrigues or Larsson would be better - I think they get more (can't afford more here) - for some reason I feel Kessel might take a bargain price to go to a team that is close (a lot of chatter out there connecting him to Edm - would have to be for a bargain like Perry has been elsewhere), and Kenney might look for that. But yes if I had my choice at 1.25 mil, Larsson would be it!, maybe he comes for that.

Wouldn't be totally shocked if Holland still thought trading Pulju was a good idea, but trading a player who could break out to your division rival is something even ol' Kenny is very unlikely to do.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jetman</b></div><div>And no spare D??</div></div>
If you actually go into the Oilers cap to build a team, you will see with Foegele traded, they can easily run a 22 man roster at the cost left to sign McLeod and a few spare parts. That's probably the workable plan.
