No reason for the Oil to dump Foegele and Pulju. Would rather see them pay a pick to just dump Foegele and be better for a run at it.

How I hope the rest of the offseason goes - very unrealistic
McLeod will be a bargain as an RFA with no arbitration rights this year, so no way Edmonton does this cap wise. And further, he could really break out this season, he had a great playoffs with a lot of trust from the coach in important moments.

Why Not
If the Oil trade Pulju, I think they trade him as far away as possible so he doesn't come back to haunt them haha.

Would rather trade Foegele for nothing/late round sweetener - Pulju will do more to help the Oil win this year in that 3RW spot. And winning right now is the goal. No need for a 2nd round pick.

And why does everyone think Koekkoek is going to be magically good enough to make the team this yr when he couldnt crack the roster last year?? Also how is it ideal to play total rookies like Broberg or Samorukov on their off side?? If the Oilers are going to try and trade for any Calgary dman it should be Weegar or Andersson.</div></div>
I'm not saying you rely on them to only cover the off side - I clearly said a cheaper 3RD is a good option. But in a pinch they all have experience on their off side and so could support as 7th D on either side, Samorukov particularly played his off side almost always in the KHL.
Not assuming Koekkoek would be anything more than the 9th D in the org here - he was injured a lot of last season, just listing him as a 9th option.
So they could all support behind a Nurse-Ceci, Kulak-Bouch, Kylington- 1-2mil RHD (Subban, Stralman, Michael Stone).

For sure, would need to trade out Barrie to be replaced with a cheaper 3RD or still offload Foegele. An offload of Barrie would make the most sense, Broberg Samorukov and Koekkoek can all play the right side, or they could get a cheaper true righty for that third pair

Could there be a trade with Pulju and Kylington at the core? Edmonton could use another LHD, albeit Kylington is not exactly a veteran yet which would be the ideal support for Broberg, but still not a bad fit.

Or maybe as RFAs they are allowed to sign 8 years even if traded...whereas UFAs on teams that didn't draft em are stuck at 7 year max...in any case, would make sense.

Bratt makes a lot of sense as a centrepiece (with lots added as you have) to a Tkachuk deal. Can each team do a sign and trade so they both get 8 year deals, is that a thing?

As an Oilers fan this'd be perfect, I'm sure not a thoughtful move from FLA, they'd take on probably about double cap from Weegar with Barrie and Pulju combined once Pulju is signed.
The point on Ceci I don't get - if you watched the Oil last season, he was well worth his contract.

Yeah Holland has said multiple times they intend to go with Soup and Stew. Skinner got more NHL games in than Ingram last season and played well, would not be any kind of clear upgrade.

Reimer is a good fit for the Oil. Campbell or Kuemper might be a little better, but cost at least double per year. With Reimer the Oil could afford some more defensive help in front of him, perhaps making the overall defensive acumen of the team better overall.

Pulju is RFA though, if it went to arbitration then wouldn't the arbitrator only award based on other RFA level performances, not free market values? If not awarded by an arbitrator, there is no reason for a GM Tongo as high with an RFA contract as they would have to in UFA competing with other teams evenly.

Habs are gonna need a PMD - KH is building a fast and offensive team - so Barrie could help in that aspect.</div></div>
Agreed, Barrie is a very useful player to have, imo his cap hit is definitely correct for what he brings. The Oil simply have two of his type of player in him and Bouchard, and Bouchard has a higher ceiling as an overall D (may not get there, but we'll see) and doesn't need big $ until next season when Keith is off the books. So Barrie is just a bit of a redundancy. But if a team doesn't have a Barrie or Bouchard type puck mover, then Barrie should help.

I think this is the exact right kind of plan (that is actually within realistic reach). I agree with the post above as well that Pulju in the Mtl trade instead with Allen coming back as part of it is sensible. Allen probably suits Holland's likely desire to have a vet with Skinner rather than another younger goalie, although Vanacek has a decently long track record already.

So Zacha walks? If that were the case I'd hope the Oil seek his rights in a Pulju trade, I think that would be a useful middle 6 add if Pulju is lost.

This would be a useful trade for the Oil to get a cheaper replacement for Kane if nothing can be worked out there at a decent price, and obviously help Tampa with cap while still giving them a 3rd liner.

Big deals
The Oilers have a 3C/2LW when needed in RNH. Taking out Pulju (and even Kass, although he should be moved for cap reasons apart from this) takes out winger depth, so I don't understand the gain for the Oil positionally. Any move to get Kass's cap off the books is good, so I'd do Kass and a 2nd to someone for nothing, but honestly there is no positional need to even do a 1 for 1 Pulju for Kerfoot, RNH covers the 3C/top 6 winger slide, while Pulju gives a different winger dynamic that would be sorely missed if not replaced with another big RW - which will be hard to find.

I would be quite happy with this from the Oil perspective, the cap and positional aspects of it are what the Oil need. Brown could be a support winger with either McD or Drai and probably do just fine.

Georgiev can't come in and be the starter, so there is no point in giving up all these assets for him. May as well have resigned Koskinen if the Oil wanted a goalie of that level, which won't help at all.

I guess you really do only remember Barrie when he didn't fit on the Leafs team hey. Barrie has been a dependable PP specialist on the Oilers. Bouchard is better. But many teams have neither a Barrie nor a Bouchard for their powerplay. This why some teams will give something for Barrie. Not a ton, but something.

Optimistic Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OkMan</b></div><div>I've heard that Smith might Retire, but I think that Ingram is a better option than Skinner. Ingram played incredibly well in the playoffs. At this point he could even be a low end to middle tier starter. I might be overrating him though.</div></div>
Hard to tell just how well a goalie really can be when they still didn't win a game in a series like that. I remember Korpisalo having an amazing postseason recently too, only to be a backup with bad stats. Skinner had 13 regular season games with strong stats, something Ingram has still not had. Also has had better results in the AHL than Ingram.
