My thoughts on Calgarys offseason

Description
Calgary had a great offseason in my opinion, they had a really solid draft, they addressed their biggest need which was goaltending but bringing in a top 10 goaltender in the league. They reworked their blue line, bottom 6 and have much better depth now, but I'm left to wonder if what they did was enough to make this team a winner, there was rumblings that the core would be changed a bit, and while losing Brodie was a core piece, will this core be able to get the job done and take Calgary on a deep play off run, or will they be another first round exit? Time will tell.

I disagree that this was an outright successful offseason.

I argue we are worse or the same in both the Defense and Offense categories.

The only position where we have improved is in the goalie category assuming markstrom continues his strong play in the calgary organization where we have continually destroyed serviceable goaltenders for 8 years in a row.

we have the same offense until the 9th forward down the lineup above and we have the same defenseman until the 4th defenseman down the line up. Tanev is decidedly a downgrade over brodie. The largest glaring weakeness for calgary in the playoffs for the last two seasons was the forwards absolute inability to even remotely compete with the other teams forwards yet we have done nothing this offseason to improve offense.

aside from Markstrom we have not added anyone who will be an improvement over last years team so will someone please explain how anyone can think we will somehow be a better team this year.

I think Calgary's youth will help them along (Andersson and Dube are fantastic) Markstrom played elite for a bad defense in Vancouver, he could be even better with Calgary's strong defense, and Calgary seriously improved their bottom 6 which will put less pressure on guys like Gaudreau and Monahan and could allow them to preform better.

im not convinced that we have really improved our bottom six. essentially we replaced reider, jankowski, rinaldo and quine with simon, levio, nordstrom and Rinaldo. Ill agree i like the new guys better than the old but i am not convinved tha ttheya re that much bettter or will make that much of a difference. Flames needed to improve their top six this offseason to do anything that will move the needle
