Ottawa could have traded Hoffman to whomever and couldn’t - San Jose took Hoffman for them as you mentioned there was a locker room issue. Yes trading him back to the Atlantic was a nuisance but Wilson clearly didn’t say “yeah we’re keeping Hoffman” he definitely told them he’s going to flip him.
