Dubas likes to collect former Greyhounds so I can see a trade bringing McCann to the Leafs but this aint it. Considering how much Toronto got for Kap, I can't see Dubas getting so little for Nylander
1. Makes Leafs competitive window much smaller
2. Nylander has lots of tread left on his tires, Letang - not so much
3. Leafs have signed Brodie, they have young guys like Dermott, Sandin in the system - there is no need to trade Nylander (the best contract of our big 4) for another Dman (a 33yo, injury-prone one at that)
4. Makes Leafs tough cap situation even worse

Doesn’t work or have the value Toronto want for Nylander (Letang being old and only 2 years signed)
They take a lesser D that’s younger and under team control. Letang is a stud still but he’s also aging
Doesn’t work for Pittsburgh, they still really need Letang on D. Not a major hole filled with Nylander
Rielly/Letang would make one Hell of a defensive pair. Two D-men that are both capable of scoring close to a PPG. And both good defensive defensemen too!! And Letang is still top 3 at running the Point on the player play. It’s Letang, Weber and Krug. 1A, 1B, 1C. It doesn’t even matter which order. Every year it could be different. And Rielly also plays the PP point well!! But Letang is the Right-Handed shot!!
But I don’t think either team does the trade. I don’t think the Pens want to have that much cap with forwards. The Pens need that cap space for a top pairing RHD. And they arnt cheap!! And Letang took less money than he was worth. Like SiD and Geno did too. And Leafs don’t want to have that much cap taken up by defense too. Allthogh, that’s a ridiculously good Defensive now with Rielly/Letang, Muzzin/Brodie. And McCann with back to back 35 point seasons. And he will score 20 plus this year!! He already scored 19 in 2018, but just had 14 last year but had that year end slump and was playing 3C instead of LW. Cause that’s where we needed him. And the shortened season. And McCann and Nylander are the same age Both 24, both won roster spots and started in the NHL at 19 and never looked back. McCann just hasn’t fully broken out yet. But he’s been jumped around a lot. B/ween 3C, top 6 LW, 3rd line LW, and 2nd line Center if Sid or Geno miss time. And Nylander was an 8th overall pick. They are expected to play in the NHL at 19. But McCann is gonna break out this year, getting that consistent, routine, at LW that young players need and just being able to snipe!!
