Both trades are mostly about clearing cap space because Fehr/Franson are better than what the Pens could get in a return for these players, and they really can't afford to take on any additional contracts. It remains to be seen whether this is a strategy GMJR would adopt (doubtful), but it would be a nice way to ditch problematic contracts while re-stocking a depleted prospect pool. There's no question this would be an excellent team though.
