Re-tool now, re-build after the sedins retire

Created by: gmjim1
Team: 2017-18 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 1, 2016
Published: Dec. 1, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Miller on long-term, low cap deal, future buyout candidate.
Doan in his last year, 4th line, heart and soul, PP specialist.
Shattenkirk is the result of Miller and Burrows taking hometown discounts.
Tampa won't be able to afford to pay Drouin what he wants, and canucks pay big to get his rights.
Philly has the worst goaltending in the league, and some of the best D prospects, they can afford to lose Sanheim for a 1st round pick powerforward and a better than average goalie.
The Sedins and Doan will be off the books after this season, freeing up 16.5 million in cap space going ahead.
Canucks can build around Larkin, Drouin, Horvat and Boeser after this season.

If Sanheim could fetch Drouin straight up, Philly would do that instead of the VAN trade.

It's so annoying having to explain the obvious to ppl... If the going rate keeps true based on the Larsson/Hall trade, then Tanev is more than fair value for Larkin. Larkin is no Taylor Hall.

The Sanheim trade is for Drouin's rights, not for Drouin. He's an RFA after this season, and they may not be able to sign him. They risk losing him for what will probably be a 1st and a 3rd in compensation. They could end up with a mid or low 1st rounder, or know what they're getting in return (sandheim).
