Solid no from MTL...why would they give up a solid 3rd liner who is incredible on D and the PK with a 1st for a D who isn't a top LD.....he's basically what chariot is, makes 0 sense.

I don't think the difference between Rakell and McCann is a first and a third.

From a production standpoint, they weren't really far apart last year.

Rakell had 15 goals and 42 points in 65 games.

McCann had 14 goals and 35 points in 66 games.

Using the Athletic's GSVA model, Rakell is worth 1.41 wins above replacement while McCann is worth .98 wins above replacement.

They have similar two-year contracts with McCann ~800k cheaper each season, and McCann is 3 years younger and still an RFA when his contract is over.

Rakell is probably the better player right now but I don't think McCann has significantly less value, if he even has less value.

Much better ways to use those picks.

I mean, he did play top LD on a back to back stanley cup team and has remained there for the past three years.

Doesn't really make any sense for the Ducks anyway, tbh.

The Ducks trading Rakell doesn't make much sense but getting a younger, slightly worse and cheaper player with those picks would be absurd value for them.

I don't know...a late 1st in this years draft doesn't really do it for me. McCann is fine, but if the Ducks were moving Rakell, it'd be for somebody expansion exempt+pick(s) because they were selling (which they currently aren't doing).

ya dont get me wrong I like him but the habs have enough D that are Defensive if they're giving their first round pick for a LD its going to be for a puck moving one who puts up more than 30pts.
