Protection list and explanation

Created by: Sid_the_kid_875948
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2021
Published: Mar. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Forward protection list:
-Crosby
-Malkin
-Gientzel
-Zucker
-Rust
-Kapanen
-Tanev

Defense protection list:
-Letang
-Dumoulin
-Petterson (dont know if marino ca be taken or not)

Reason why certain players are saved:
Tanev is the only one that might not be saved on the forward list. Tanev is a player that the Pens need to keep even though a rebuild. He's a great leader in the locker room, has a great shot, puts up offensive numbers when necessary, a nasty hitter, and really good defensively. For the defense it's pretty obvious one the choices. I dont know if the pens can save Marino, but if so then he is saved over Petterson. I could also see Dumo being unsaved and Marino and Petterson saved just because of age. Let me know what you think of the protection list and anything I should fix.

Imo if one of Peterson or dumo is available, then they take them. But it'll be a good choice no matter what. Unless they decide to take a cap dump or a trash player

Don’t worry about Marino... he is exempt.

Ok, if he wasn't exempt then would the pens protect marino and pettersson or marino and dumo

I’m no Pittsburgh fan, but I wanna say Pettersson mainly because of age. Or do 4-4-1 and lose a good forward.

they won't get the chance. Tanev will be left unprotected. Seattle will not take him. He's having a career year. They won't bite.
Seattle will have a choice of McCann, ZAR or Matheson. They will not select ZAR, he's a good player but he's not the kind of guy you take. He's a 4th liner kind of guy.
McCann or Matheson will be their choices. Matheson is having a better year.
McCann struggling isn't going to help Seattle pick him. He's still young, he has upside. But that is a 3 mil contract for the next 2 years for a guy that hasn't played like a 3 mil player in some time.
I know everyone here hates on Matheson. But you got to take the best player available or the move that's best for the team.
If they don't want to take on cap they take ZAR. If they don't care about the cap and want the best player they take Matheson.
