I'd say a 2nd or a 3rd. If I were Ken Holland, I'd start out asking for Derrick Pouliot though.

    Thanks
For DP, I'd make that trade in a second.

I feel like DP still has potential and could benefit from a change in scenery, being only 22.

For sure, Penguins obviously arnt willing to play him, could be a good move for both teams.
Detroit gets a team controlled young struggling Dman with good underlying numbers
Pens get a LD to cover for Dumoulin while he recovers from surgery and added depth afterwards

The Wings don't have cap space for a straight up Smith for Pouliot trade though. It'd have to be like Smith and Ott for Fehr and Pouliot or something so it works cap wise

Unless it's like at the deadline and the Wings have freed some cap space up

How so, Pouliot has a lower AAV?

Pens on the other hand don't have to space, and may want some salary retained, or move Fehr elsewhere as you mention

I miscalculated in my head. My bad. Seeing retained salary threw me off

A lower tier right handed d-man who is a project or wish for a 4th rounder and take a 5th.

I know nothing about their prospects, is Bengtsson high or low on their radar? The smart ass answer is any defenseman who is 5'7" or smaller or forward who don't check and dekes at the blue line.

Bengtsson is in his first North American season, but missed training camp and the first 1/4 of the season with Lyme disease, but he is coming around now.

Maybe Ethan Prow and a 5th would do it for you?

For me it sounds good, Holland would hold out for Kessel though that is why trades are hard for him. But yes, it sounds fair.

Smith was going for a third earlier in the year without retention. But @ 50% salary it's interesting

Can we give you Merrill for Smith?
    Sorry for the hijack!

    NP

Smith is probably the better of the two though older, but the thinking is that the wings are looking for picks

Merrill is better than Prow for sure though

What about a smith/vanek for maatta type deal? Not sure on the value but would that draw any interest?

    Noooooo!
Pens don't need Vanek or any wingers really
Maatta is a 22 year old top four D, even though he is underperforming

Maybe if there is Detroit's first rounder coming back...otherwise that's a steal for Detroit
