With no domi or lindgren and buyouts off the books it should be about 16.5 left over for laf + miller + barron + a forward spot

Easily could bridge Miller and give Laf a 5 year deal till Kreids is off the books and then he gets his big money. Plus I think in 4 years the cap will rise, even if only $1 or $2 mil that’ll help a lot.

Laf would probably want 6.5M with the way he's looking and Miller would want around 4.5M =$11M (both on bridge deals)
    Barron + forward = about $2.5
    16-13.5 = $2.5

So realistically the Rangers could make it work but they would have huge gaps at 2C and LHD.

Risky having Laf on a 5-year deal that would lead him to become a UFA

Not really in 5 years we'd have all the money in the world to resign him. They did it with guys like Stamkos, Kane, Toews and even Crosby. I wouldn't be worried at all.

Not money wise. I think Rangers would have enough money at that time. Im talking about leading him to be a UFA so he could sign with a different team.

    Parise to Wild
    Suter to Wild
    Tavares to Toronto
    Laf to Montreal?

Im worried about that for every player. I don't like when a player leaves their team to go to their hometown team but it is a possibility

Just cause it's a possibility doesn't mean we should be worried. I think our focus for the next 5 years will be building to compete for the cup in 3 years. By then most of our younger guys will be in their mid 20s and our older guys in their late 20s or early 30s. If it takes signing him to a 5 year deal to help build a better overall team and we won the cup in 5 years and lost Laf it'd suck, but it'd certainly be worth it.
    Devil liked this.
