The Schmidt deal is interesting, apparently Florida was interested in him before he was moved to Vancouver. I think it makes the team worse in the near future and Nutivaara is a bottom pair defensemen and Schmidt was arguably the teams best defensemen, but the trade might save the Canucks from the last few years of Schmidts deal. I would probably still pass on that deal. Also, I dont see Petey taking a long term deal and having the number being below 10 million dollars.

Might have to throw in a mid round pick in the Meyers dump.

The retained salary doesn't really matter for teams with cap space. Nor will taking back a bad contract (Nielson). Myers is massively overpaid and his "skills" are diminishing as we speak. My guess is it would take AT MINIMUM: Podkolzin and a first round pick. This trade would be much more likely to happen with a team that also NEEDS to dump a bad contract. Hello Edmonton. And just as a side note Holland once offered Buffalo the choice between Anthony Mantha or Dylan Larkin for Myers before they traded him.

My goodness handcuff the Canucks even more why don't you...14M in buried cap and another 3.5M in retained cap
Myers may be bad but not that bad, still a serviceable defencemen. It doesn't make any sense to bury Nielsen plus 2M of Myers then sign 2 UFA d-men when you have one capable Myers.

It would probably make more sense to buy out Holtby.
Beagle may be on LTIR for the entirety of next season
    Bury Eriksson and Roussel
Mikey D is not ready for NHL backup duties for another couple years.
Edler will cost more, in the 2-3M range if he decides to re-sign with us
