Massive shake up

Created by: Kylonetic8
Team: 2021-22 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: May 19, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm not seeing a team that can win a cup anymore as the roster is currently constructed. We need a gigantic shakeup. We need youth, we need speed. We just can't hang with teams in do or die situations anymore. OT/3v3. We look old and slow and gassed constantly in those situations.

Sounds like Kuzy will be moved, and everyone knows it. The Caps leverage is lessened here, but they seem to be done with him and his shenanigans.

I think they hold onto Samsonov, as he's the best goalie on the current roster, and has the most potential.

McMichael gets time with the Caps in 2021.

We have extremely good center depth now with this roster. Dowd, our best center in the playoffs in 2021, suddenly finds himself 5th center on the depth chart. With two new centers that can actually play some damn defense, unlike Kuznetsov. At the cost of some offense certainly, but Ek seems to have found his offensive touch this year. The Caps are gambling that it holds, and Minnesota doesn't have to gamble on this as they're getting Kuznetsov, who can still play offense at a high level.

Edit: Adjusted Ek trade from discussion.

  1. 2021 2nd round pick (ARI)
  2. 2021 4th round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Partial cap dump to a team that needs D, since Arizona has 3 defense under contract for 2021 currently. Two of the pending free agents are old and probably won't be re-signed. With this trade, they won't have to. Technically they get younger on D for the cost of a couple picks. Taking Kempny costs the Caps pick coming our way.

Most of the Wild fans here are sensible and rational. Then there are the few that will be claimed from the Earth by natural selection in a few years.

Very true, every team has both people. I’ve only seen the crazy side of Wild AGMs for the most part

Can you propose a counter? I want to hear the values here from other fans' perspectives.

What if I added a D prospect? Are they competing soon? I was under the impression they were in rebuild.
