Description

Team is close but they need proper 5v5 depth and need cap space for future contracts of internal RFA's. 2 LW/RW, a true 3C, a LD if Klefbom is on LTIR, a back up G on a "show me" contract (Stalock) is already in place so going after Rask who is a legit number one was a no brainer and fringe depth that are on 1 yr deals. Khaira not qualified (can't risk arbitration) as well Shore, Chiasson, Patrick Russell, Ennis all let go because the bottom 6th depth they provided isn't good enough and their contracts are up. Kris Russell gone to Seattle in expansion draft. Neal bought out and Koskinen and Turris buried in minors and when their contracts are up next year that is Nurse and Pulijarvi extension money. Team has 1.5 mil plus cap space and a 23 man roster which leaves room for Benson/Holloway/Broberg if they earn their way up.

I personally wouldn't keep RNH but I have a hard time imagining Ken Holland getting serious and allowing him to go being such an important piece to team morale.

Danault is a true 3C and would allow for real flexibility if playing 97 alongside 29 at stretches. 5v5 scoring is addressed with

Welcome! Coleman will probably get more than 2.5M. He will get around 3.5-4M depending on if there is a bidding war. Driedger is a no-go to me, but if you want him again it will probably be a bidding war, because of the multiple good seasons he has had. This is not bad, and I’m not trying to be rude, but these are just my thoughts.

Seattle also isn't going Kris Russell. They'll be taking Jones or Benson.

Without touching on salaries, forward group is much better but that D-Core looks shaky, definitely not a group that could win playoff rounds without top notch goaltending.

They signed Russell extension for the opportunity to expose, Benson is an RFA and they won't sign him before expansion draft. Jones will be protected (in my opinion)
