Additional Details:

Carolina have quite a dilemma when it comes to the expansion Draft. Currently they have 5 defensemen worthy of being protected. Not resigning Dougie Hamilton until after the Expansion Draft can solve one of those but in that case Brady Skokie or Jake Bean will be selected. Trading Bean for an exempt, high upside defenseman like Rathbone could allow them to get out of that jam and still have a young elite defence.

I don’t know if this is fair value. Feel free to tell me what picks would make this fair.

Additional Details:

The Canucks have a lot of super offensive defensemen. Trading Rathbone for a slightly more balanced player in Bean could be smart. He’s still offensive minded but much less so then Rathbone.

I would rather have Rathbone, flat out. I like Bean and I think the Canucks would love to have him, but the org is very high on Rathbone. I think the Canes just have to accept losing Skjei and should hang onto Bean.
