Ah I see what you’re getting at. Mrazek did have two inconsistent seasons before this outstanding one, so a sorta prove it contract would be his next contract.
Plus like I said, most all contending teams are up against the cap. With this flat cap. Not gonna be a ton of money to go around. Buyers market.
And rebuilding teams with the cap room, are gonna spend on young players with potential, or maybe a stop gap vet on a 1-2 year contract. But again, not spending big money.
Very few FA’s will get big money this offseason. I think people are gonna be surprised with some of the low contracts.
Raask, P.Grubauer, L.Ullmark and Driedger will be the goalies that get paid. J.Bernier and Freddy Andersson after that. But they are gonna probably be taking a pay cut as well.
The next tier of Mrazek, J.Halak, A.Raanta, J.Reimer, D.Riitch, B.Elliot will all be getting low-end 1-2 year deals in my opinion.
I would actually like the Pens to go after L.Brossoit. I think he’s a good goalie. Just hasn’t had a big opportunity. I think he could be good, and he’s still young for a goalie.
He’s been good in short stretches b4. Maybe with consistent playing time and an expanded role, he can get into a routine and be another J.Binnington.
