Oilers should be retaining at least half on Koskinen. Otherwise Buffalo can just give Mike Smith 3M for the season if they can't sign Ullmark.

The way I view OEL is it solves a temporary problem but has a long term expensive deal that’s going to be tough to get enough retention on doubt ownership will sign off paying part of that for 6 more years. On top of that has a clause that can be very tough to move later so if bring him in with intent to move 2-3 years from now that’s risky. I’d give up more to get ekholm because of contract differences not handcuffing the roster as much.
