<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Snowhawk18</b></div><div>But if Olofsson has all of this “potential talent” as you suggest, it would be piss poor asset management to give him away for as YOU referred to a 7th round pick “essentially nothing”, regardless of how much young talent Buffalo has. The fact that you are willing to deal him for a 7th round pick suggest he doesn’t really have all of this “potential talent”, at least not enough “potential talent” to support his $4.75m cap hit which I think you already know but instead of acknowledging that you try to pull the wool over the eyes of other people on this board.</div></div>

He's barely playing because we have a ton of talented forwards that all need ice time. Once Jack Quinn comes back we're gonna have a solid depth guy that will be a healthy scratch. Guys that are playing on our 4th line would make your top 6. Trading him is pretty much just doing him a favor so he gets more playing time somewhere else. We did the same thing with Asplund, Bjork, and Boosh.

"pull the wool over the eyes of other people on this board" Lol yea saying you can have him for future considerations is really pulling the wool over the eyes. Really overselling his value with that lmao. It's really not that complicated. Guy struggling with history of decent production on team loaded with forwards could use a new team to give him more playing time. You're trying way to hard to argue. It's not that hard to understand.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>His cap matters because, regardless of wants/needs/necessity, you are still trying to move out a large cap hit to a team that has no use for the player and you want them to pay for him.

If he plays solid he is still 28 years old going on 29. The moves CHI made last summer had a purpose. They are all guys who are nearing the end of their careers, have played at a high level and won, have been long time leaders in the NHL, and can help guide our young players into the pro ranks. All of that made them worth overpaying. Olofsson doesn't do any of that. He doesn't provide anything that we can't get in free agency, and he takes up valuable roster space. I'd be willing to bet he isn't looking to join a rebuild, either, and if he is we can just get him in free agency.

Anders Bjork was free and re-signed on an AHL/ECHL contract. Meaning anyone can sign him to an NHL contract right now and steal him away. He is just a placeholder in the AHL. KD was simply stockpiling serviceable stop-gap players last year, to fill space and kill time until the end of the season. The fact that Bjork stuck around is not significant in any way. If it wasn't him, it would've been someone else. But the fact that Rockford is close to home (Wisconsin), probably made it an easy decision for him.</div></div>

Your team traded a 7th for just the rights to Corey Perry. I've even said it can be future considerations I don't really care.

Anders Bjork wasn't even an NHLer and had a 1.6M cap hit. Olofsson at least is a NHLer.

"I'd be willing to bet he isn't looking to join a rebuild, either, and if he is we can just get him in free agency." The exact opposite actually. Olofsson is looking for playing time. A team where he can rebuild his value.

"if he is we can just get him in free agency." Or you can give him a test run in your system for literally free lol.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Snowhawk18</b></div><div>When it comes to Bork, they gave up FC so he was basically given to them for a free test ride. At the time of the deal he was making $1.6m per season, when pro-rated over the remainder of the season he costs the Hawks roughly $300,000 - $400,000. Bjork was an RFA at the end of the season, so if he came in and really lit it up the Hawks could qualify him and easily retain his rights.

Olofsson makes roughly $4.8m per season, at the deadline that will be roughly a $1m - $1.2m hit to the the Hawks. If Buffalo is willing to trade him at that point it is because he has continued to struggle throughout this season and has not earned his ticket. On top of that you want a 7th round pick which isn’t much but it is still something. If Olofsson goes to Chicago and lights it up, he is a UFA which means the Hawks may have to outbid other teams for his services moving forward.

So, it doesn’t makes sense for the Hawks to give up any picks or cap space for a guy who can walkway at the end of the season. Now if Buffalo wants to throw in a 3rd/4th round pick then that is a different story.</div></div>

That's exactly what I said. It can be for a consideration.

Olofsson has far more potential upside than Bjork did. He was pretty much an AHLer with a 1.6M cap hit.

7th round pick isn't anything. Your last 20 7th round picks haven't played more than 5 NHL games. It's essentially nothing. Olofsson has far more potential upside than a 7th.

If Olofsson has 15-20 points past deadline he still isn't making more than 2M. I don't see how there is something wrong with trying to add some potential talent around young guys.

Hawks have 13M+ in cap space. It's a non issue.
