Adding Experience and Grit

Created by: Lenny54
Team: 2024-25 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 30, 2024
Published: Mar. 30, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Sabres aren't going to fire Granato so hopefully they at least get better asst coaches in here next year.
This team needs some experience and grit...bring in Manson (if Colo chooses to trade him for cap reasons) for the backend which will bring in veteran leadership and another cup winner with Byram. If the Sabres were willing to try Eric Johnson in that role Manson would better be served to do so.
Olivier brings the grit to the forwards and hopefully the players may decide it is safe to go to the front of the net as they will be protected...lol
Krebs since the TDL has a goal and assist since being elevated to the 3rd line...time for a change of scenery and the Sabres get an experienced bottom 6 center. Likeable player but could be another Jost.
Manson makes Jokiharju expendable and from what I see ANA lacks RHD as 5 of their 6 starters are left hand shots. Their best RHD prospect is Luneau, doubt he will be ready next year.
I'm putting Savoie as 3C and if it doesn't work out then he goes to wing, Sturm moves up to 3C and Greenway drops and Girgs goes to 4C.

Joker wasn't worth a 2nd last year, whats changed to make him worth that now?

And how is the difference between Joker and Manson only a 4th if Jokers not worth keeping around, but Manson is worth acquiring?

Lastly, it's well known Manson wants to stay west, and has the trade protection to enforce that.

Your Team Description is accurate as to Anaheim* and I would accept that offer as the Ducks GM.

* Perhaps this alternate phrasing makes it even clearer: The only NHL-qualified RhD Anaheim has under contract for next season is Radko Gudas.

Instead of Olivier I would ask about Texier. I think he’d be a better fit, if they would part with him.

I don't think Jokers an improvement over Lindstrom at 3RD, and we really need a 1RD, I'm going to have to disagree with you on taking this deal my friend, if it only costs a 4th to upgrade from Joker to Manson, I'm bringing Manson back.

I entirely agree with you that if all we have to do to upgrade from Jokiharju to Manson is add a fourth, I'm all-in. But I don't think that Josh is at all available.

My thinking about Jokiharju is that he's a good #2 RhD who leads Buffalo in plus-minus and we're going to have the same tier of prospects available at pick nos. 65 and 67 as we will with the Boston pick (almost certainly 57 - 64), so I don't mind the cost. I'm not buying Jokiharju to be our #1 RhD, but long-term to be a #2 or #3 especially after Radko's contract runs out. If Verbeek can't land a permanent #1 RhD this summer, maybe he can acquire an acceptable stopgap until he does fill the position. Which is why I sure hope we are able to draft Artyom Levshunov.

There's no interest here in moving either of them.

I’m not surprised about that. But he’s exactly the type of player I think the Sabres need, and if they wanted him badly enough, I’m sure they could come up with an offer to make it happen.

Lindstrom is 2nd on our team in +- at +7, the leader is Gudas at +12, Lindstrom has played 1/3 the games that Gudas has.

Lindstrom works well in Anaheims system. Sure, as a player with Detroit he wasn't good, but he seems to finally be clicking at 25 years old. So no, I wouldn't say Joker is much better than Lindstrom would be in Anaheim.

The problem is that we kind of need more guys like that. Doubly so if they're locker-room leaders (this is one of the many reasons why Boone Is Not Avaialable). So we're not really up for dumping the guys we already have. It's possible but you'd probably be paying more than is practical and concievably might do better in free agency.

Your argument is +/- when he's played 14 minutes a game..?

Joki has been a top 4 D for a few seasons now. He also is pretty solid on the PK. Lindstrom is a depth d man waiver fodder. Yes he's much better.

On Olivier: if we're not within smelling distance of the playoffs at the 2025 TDL and Buffalo is? Sure, but it'll probably cost you a 3rd at least, given he's a "playoff-type" and cheap. He's unlikely to be moved before then, though, since he's protecting a bunch of kids on our team at the moment and chipping in nicely on the 4th line.
