Nice deal.

danny B gets in done early, and probably saves a few dollars in the process assuming Hart is still here Ersson probably has the best chance of being the backup.

Weird contract. Shouldn't be much more than NHL Minimum. He was a fringe AHL starter last year and wasn't impressive in his few NHL games this year.

I feel like the AAV is a bit much. I know it's only starting a year from now, but twice the league minimum for a goalie with only 12 NHL games doesnt sound so right

Did you watch any of the games he started, just curious? His season stats are brought down by 3 bad games at the tail end of the season.

nah, He played pretty well, after the first game against Carolina he went 6-0. He was also playing a ton of hockey between NHL and AHL and his play started to slip. Is it maybe a tad much? possibly but it starts in a year and he's likely gonna get a lot more starts in the NHL this year. So it's too early to say that.

I mean, it's tough to be up in arms about an AAV that low for only two years, so really who cares, but it's weird that he got that much.

Why? Why sign an extension for this type of player?

He's expected to be our backup this year. And they they think highly of him.

It's a little pricey for a guy who hasn't really shown to be a reliable backup. Still, there are far worse things to risk your money on.

This is an excellent extension, period. This is clearly a good sign for Ersson, the Flyers are showing faith in Ersson, amidst a tinge of adversity, Cal Petersen was brought in and could see some time as the backup bc of his massive salary. Nonetheless, the Flyers are signaling that Petersen likely doesnt have a future in Philadelphia beyond the 2-year contract that Petersen has, and Ersson will be part of the future moving forward.

Can't be mad about this. Philly is entering a rebuild and Ersson will be their backup for a while, and probably a good one at that. They'll move out lots of money soon anyways.

Do you mean his NHL season or ahl season? I would be more concerned that his 42 games in the ahl seem pretty bad. But I am just going by box car.

I would not trust my rating on a goalie one way or the other based on 12 games. Any goalie can get hot or slump

Yeah but he is signed for another full year already. I guess they think he'll be great and earn more, but he'd have to be really good. Most backups under 25 don't get all that much more unless they're looked at as more likely than not future starters like knight or swayman

Way to much money for a goalie that has 12 NHL games under his belt. Don't care if they think highly of him. Dude had a 3.07GAA and a .899 save percentage, not worth $1.45M

Looked impressive when he played against the Sabres. Obvious a few here haven't watched him play and just look at box scores.

You could sign this extension anytime during the year. You don't need to sign them now.

Hard not to compare his contract to Dostal’s who was almost half the price. Was Dostal’s deal particularly good? Yes. But it definitely makes this feel expensive

$3mil for a goalie with 12 games experience? yah teams would be lining up for that. I mean Samsonov was a top 10 goalie and got 3.55, so some mediocre prospect whose done nothing at the NHL level (and nothing of note in the AHL) should get almost the same.
