That would be a ton of money on the right side of the D. I know Barrie had a really strong offensive season, but he still wasn't great defensively and wouldn't have McDavid and Draisaitl boosting his numbers in Montreal. If he was willing to do something south of $5M for 1 or 2 years, then I think he'd be a good pickup, but he'd basically just play on the powerplay.
Buying out Byron is a bad idea. The cap hit for the first year is tiny, but it jumps up after that to ~1.8 for the next year and ~1.1 for 2 years after that. If they wait a season it becomes a good bit cheaper and they can likely move him to a team that could use him or will do the buyout for them for a mid-round pick.
