Description
The Vancouver Canucks are still on the upswing, I do not think that's in question. There core is young and exciting and they have the skills to be contenders in the future. That being said, there are still adjustments that need to be made to this roster to make sure they have success and even tough they had an unfortunate year, the Canucks are still flawed, especially on the defensive end. I think that the first thing they need to address this offseason is obviously their RFAs and their pending contracts. After a confusing and injury-riddled year, I would say that the Canucks should give Pettersson a short-term deal while they give Hughes long-term because, all though he had a rough year defensively, he was good offensively and he only has room to grow after being in a pretty terrible circumstance this past year. Next, It's important to get a proper defense partner for Quinn Hughes. A player I like to fill this role is Josh Manson, who's good defensively and is on the trading block for Anaheim. Manson is technically a rental, but I think that he and Quinn Hughes will make a good pairing and even if not, they're will be lots of guys in next year in free agency as well as good Vancouver prospects that will be ready to play with him. Next, I signed Philip Danault to be a defensive-minded center for the third line. To do this, Vancouver cap dumps Holtby to the Phlyers who, in my opinion, could use a veteran backup to Carter Hart that can play 30ish games and teach Hart how to be mentally prepared. I think that Danault would be such a good fit for Vancouver because they're up-and-coming and good offensively therefore Danault will be able to be almost exclusively a defensive guy. Sure, Horvat is already good defensively but getting a guy like Danault would help him release some of his defensve responsibilities and become the offensive player that he's shown flashes of being, especially with Podkolzin and Hoglander on his line.

Manson for Woo and the second is fair, in my opinion, and would satisfy Anaheim. Here, you've added Roussel as a cap dump and paid for him with DiPietro. I think that's unappealing to both sides. Anaheim won't mind taking on a cap dump, but we have two excellent goalie prospects already in the pipeline, and you shouldn't be trading your best goalie prospect, especially if you're also moving Holtby. And you can't exist on a 20-man roster.

I think that you should try to figure out some way to move Schmidt.

Sadly, I think you won't have Virtanen's cap hit to worry about this season.
