Description

Johnson and Palat are out. Palat has been injury prone all his career, but the bubble split season and the 56 game short season were not the norm for him. He is due to miss 20 games this upcoming season. Getting Joe Thornton is a huge motivator for a 3-peat. He played for the same money in Toronto last season, and would make more money for the same salary in salary tax-free Florida. He's also known as a great locker room guy, and a leader. Craig Anderson is definitely an upgrade from McElhinney and similar to Thornton, he played in DC for the same pay. Killorn can do the same job as Palat, and I believe better for less pay. Cirelli and Joseph had good chemistry on a line with Killorn a couple seasons ago and the speed of Cirelli, Joseph and Colton is better than what most teams will be able to defend. Re-signing Goodrow and keeping him with Gourde is a must. I'd rather have Coleman than Stamkos, but Stamkos is not going to waive is NMC (there's always LTIR for him...) Putting ABB between a set-up guy like Thornton and a big body like Maroon will allow him to progress as he has scored at all levels up until now. Cal Foote will need to step it up this year, and I'm pretty sure Luke Schenn is ok with his role the past few years, so why not 1 more. I'm not sure if there will be a taxi squad next year (probably not) but those guys are on 2 way contracts either way. I know its really close to the cap, but as of today, they're over the cap

If they wont/cant take both, Johnson in the expansion draft and Palat traded to any team on his M-NTC list for as little as possible, possibly a 3 team trade involving Detroit eating salary similar to the David Savard deal

can only assume ur a fan of a team that's in on Goodrow, but yeah it's in the realm of possibility. Convince him to take a one year deal to run it back for the 3 peat. He won't get more than 3-3.5 on the open market anyhow...

I didn't mean to give Goodrow 1 year, meant 3 year deal. The whole of this was to see if there was a way to keep most of the core lineup of the past 2 seasons in tact.
