Butch Cassidy

Created by: diplomats356
Team: 2016-17 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 9, 2017
Published: Feb. 9, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Claude regime has come to a close and Cassidy takes over with a more fast paced system in mind. He facilitates a bold trade in letting Chara go, giving Toronto the veteran D man presence they will need in the playoffs in addition to a cushion after Morgan Rielly's recent injuries. They land a big net front presence in JvR in return, and sign Shattenkirk in free agency in the off-season. Shatter Kirk adds the talented top pair d man they now needed, and will also serve as a mentor to the plethora of young blue liners the Bruins were able to retain in Carlo, McAvoy, and Zboril

Beleskey will be one of the 7 protected forwards. Who else would be #7 Nash, Hayes, Schaller? No. 3 years ago you could get a JVR caliber player for Chara....not today. He's a statue on the ice.

Is this meant to be this offseason or trade deadline? Also it would probably take Chara and a solid prospect to get just about anything at this point in his career, let alone JVR.

Lmao at that Chara take. Chara AND a solid prospect just to get anything? Yes, he's out and at the end of his career, but he's still a top 4 defenseman capable of playing 20-22 minutes a night. His cap hit drops to 4 million next season, which is extremely affordable for a contender. You don't think a team (contender) wouldn't want to solidify their D-core by adding Chara as their 2nd pairing guy? You think it would take a prospect as well to get something for Chara? If Chara was made available at the deadline, he would land a decent haul for Boston. Maybe worry about your own team since you have no clue about Chara.

Hey man I like Chara as much as the next hockey fan but the guy has lost more than a step. Still solid by all means due to his smarts and positioning.
I just think he's becoming more beatable as the season goes on and he needs to carry the load for an undermanned defensive unit.

Chara is the best defender of the d core, but that's more due to Krug's size limitations, Kevan Miller and Quaders talent limitations, and Colin Miller and Carlo's inexperience. Not to mention Liles has sucked this year too.
