No thanks. Your first would be interesting for Labanc though

I wouldn't move Calgary's first for Labanc. Would consider flipping the vegas first potentially.
I'm using Arvidsson as a benchmark for this trade. I gave an additional 2nd instead of the 3rd even though Arvidsson is on a better contract and has produced more. This is because this trade would occur after the expansion draft and Labanc is younger.

I would accept that Sharks trade.

I don’t use Arvidson though. I’m only taking the Kapanen deal and nothing less because we don’t need to move Labanc at all. Nashville was going to lose him for free, and Labanc is just a better player

I increased the value from the Arvidson for reasons already stated. Labanc is not a better player. Arvidsson has surpassed Labanc best year 3 times. He has scored at over 30g/gp pace 3 years.

Kapanen is not a good comparable.
-He was 23 when he was traded and labanc is 25
-Labanc is a UFA. Kapanen is an RFA and will be at the end of his contract
-Cap hit of $3,200,000 vs $4,725,000 (1,525,000 almost 50% more expensive)
-Higher ceiling than Labanc, reflected in draft position (1st round vs 6th round)

You can argue that you wouldn't move Labanc for anything but a huge overpay. However, the given value is fair.

Its not and im not debating you when you base 24 year olds potential off of where they were drafted. Its not worth it for me, but if any team gets Labanc for this deal they should be very happy, and if so I probably will stop following the sharks.

Bit of a strawman. I'm not saying he can't develop more. I'm sure Lebanc has another level he can get to. Gio didn't win the norris until he was 36. I'm saying that Kapanen is worth more because he's younger, has a higher PROJECTED ceiling, better contract and is an RFA. These factors are what you consider when determining value.

Who has the higher projected ceiling and more value?
Alexis Lafreniere or Philipp Kurashev

But he DOESNT. Kapanen is a third liner, Labanc has far more potential. Labancs analytics project him as a first line caliber offensively, but hes been bounced around and stuck with SJ on a terrible powerplay and system. Labanc is easily the better player and it will become apparent sooner rather than later.

I mean Kapanen put up 30 points in 40 GP. That's not 3rd liner production. He's also outproduced Labanc the last two seasons. He's younger (and was even younger when he was traded) and has 100 less gp but is out producing Labanc multiple years in a row.

But I digress, my original point is that Kapanens trade from last year isn't indicative of the current value of Labanc.
-Kapanen was cheaper (by almost 50%)
-Younger
-RFA status

It comes down to that I personally wouldn't give up 12 OA for Labanc. Labancs hasn't produced that well over the last 2 years and is a bit of a gamble. I don't think he's worth 12 OA. I would go after a reinheart or garland if I was moving 12 OA. If these very hypothetical trades went through I would potentially give up vegas 30th instead of the seconds for Labanc.
