You just completely destroyed this team. Youre certainly not a contender, yet you have a lot of old talent on big deals. No cap space and no talent is a recipe for a decade long rebuild.

Gonna need some rationale other than "they're old". This is a team with an outstanding amount of depth that even Vegas didn't have when they began. Price alone could carry this team to playoffs, not to mention it's the weakest division.

Lets start then.
1. Yanni gourde is in no way shape or form a 1c or even a 2c. For any team trying to make a playoff run hes a 3c.
2. Dermott-jensen as a 2nd pair is a perfect plan to get bounced early. That is not an nhl caliber 2nd pair, certainly not for a team thats trying to contend.
3. You have this preconceived notion that tarasenko will just return to the tarasenko of old when all signs point the other way. His productions been terrible recently and this past season when he was healthy after the 3rd surgery he put up
24gp 4g 10a 14p. Thats a 14 goal pace over an 82 game season.
4. Jvr is still a solid player but hes getting old and is signed for 7million for 2 more years. He isnt a top line winger on a contendimg team. Sorry to say it but he just isnt.
5. Colin miller on the 1st pair enough said.
6. Look at prices numbers over the last 4 years not very good.
17-18 - .900 sv% 3.11 gaa
18-19 - .918 sv% 2.49 gaa
19-20 - .909 sv% 2.79 gaa
20-21 - .901 sv% 2.64 gaa
Only 1 year in the last 4 at league average. The other 3 were significantly below. Now add in the fact that hes gonna be 34 next season and the major dropoff with goalies happens almost always at 35.
7. You underpaid a lot of players (granlund, athanasiou, aston reese) and you have no cap space.
8. Mikael granlund is not a 2C.

The fact that you think this team is a contender is laughable tbh.
