Mock Draft transfer over plus Eichel trade

Created by: Billy739
Team: 2021-22 Seattle Kraken
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 20, 2021
Published: Jul. 20, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Based off the Expansion Draft i did on Capfriendly.com

https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/483897

Size ,Speed ,and Goal Scoring is this teams identity.
Tons of Physicality will create space for our speedy players to rush the OZ.

Our biggest issue here would be the Gamble on Deangelo
That said i feel that even if he doesnt succeed here Shattenkirk , Gudas ,Foote and Kukan are strong enough to be able to pick up the slack until TDL atleast if not rise to the occasion

I like all the pieces though

-Goaltending is Young/Ambitious and has Bishop as a great Mentor whether he's on LTIR supporting them or dressed supporting them as back up.

-Forwards got a healthy mix of different types of players who outside JVR are all under 30 with some solid youth prospects to develop and build on

-Defense has 4/7 D are 22-24 years old with Decent role players and leaders and one Wildcard Pre-Madonna looking to rebound. The Talent is there and if everyone works together in a few years a strong core will form out of those youth.

Young Enough to build on
Mature Enough to Contend
Physical Enough to Compete
Skilled enough to Win
Cap to spare for TDL additions as needed.

Yandle Acquisition for 1.25m works for Yandle who's making 2.34m this year of his buyout from FLA plus his over 35+ contracts Performance bonus's could net him another 1-1.5m if he has a standout year.

Low risk , High Reward for the team and the player .
A lot of D options in that price range and i looked at a few but i think Yandle would be the best mentor for Foote making the 3rd pair trustworthy.

SEA
  1. Shattenkirk, Kevin
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
3rd round pick to take Shattenkirk instead of Larsson , Fleury or Muhara
ANA
2.
3.
4.
5.
SEA
  1. Kylington, Oliver [RFA Rights]
  2. 2022 5th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
5th to select Kylington over the Captain Giordano

CGY making the gesture to keep its Captain in a take it or leave it scenario in which Seattle decided a 5th and Kylington was worth more to them then Giordano for a few years.
CGY
6.
SEA
  1. Bean, Jake [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Possibly the easiest pick of the draft
CAR
7.
8.
SEA
  1. Donskoi, Joonas
Additional Details:
COL offered a 3rd to protect Donskoi
Seattle Declined and countered with a 2nd
COL declined and this pick was made.
COL
9.
10.
SEA
  1. Bishop, Ben
Additional Details:
No real good options after they traded Dickinson.
Its worth the Gamble that after Bishop comes of LTIR that he will return to his regular All Star form.

Better chances at success then Honka , Cogliano or Comeau offering value to Seattle in the short or long term
DAL
11.
SEA
  1. Svechnikov, Evgeny [RFA Rights]
DET
12.
SEA
  1. Khaira, Jujhar [RFA Rights]
EDM
13.
SEA
  1. Gudas, Radko
Additional Details:
Team needs a Bone Cruncher who can also contribute on Special teams and Gudas still fits the bill.

FLA has a few other options but they're all UFA's that can be targeted later making Gudas,Accari or Juulsen the logical choices
FLA
14.
SEA
  1. Athanasiou, Andreas [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Kings offered a 2nd to protect AA
Seattle Declined and selected AA with no counter offer
LAK
15.
SEA
  1. Kähkönen, Kaapo
Additional Details:
Favorite and Chosen Starter for the Seattle Kraken
MIN placed a call to make an effort and Seattle just hung up the phone already having their mind made up
MIN
16.
SEA
  1. Drouin, Jonathan
Additional Details:
Lack of options takes away Seattle's leverage to ask for a pick.

We could select Price but then atleast 2 of my top 9 forwards would have to be swapped out. I tried that but players im willing to move are on teams with nothing better to offer. I'd be forced to take a loss in PIT and DAL to make a profit in MTL knowing Price likely wont start next year.

Drouin's a safer Gamble who's cheaper and worst case scenario retires. Still a bigger upside then Drafting Weber , Price or Byron

I predict like William Karlsson he thrives in a new market
MTL
17.
SEA
  1. Johansen, Ryan
Additional Details:
Offered a 3rd to take Duchene
Seattle Declined and Countered with a 2nd
NSH Declined and talks ended

Seattle wants a Bulk Faceoff Power Center as they're not easy to come by even if they are declining offensively they still offer more then Duchene , Sissons, or Jarnkrok would as he has the potential to rebound in Seattle

Worst case if you retain and flip a Johanson you will find suitors willing to pony up a 1st or 2nd round pick and a prospect.(more options with Johanson)
NSH
18.
SEA
  1. Merkley, Nick [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
NJD made an offer of a 2nd round pick and Butcher to not select Nick Merkley

Seattle Declined and made no counter offer.
They plan on Merkley being part of the Future in Seattle
NJD
19.
SEA
  1. Bellows, Kieffer [RFA Rights]
  2. Komarov, Leo
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
NYI offer up Bellows and a 2nd for Seattle to select Komorov over Bailey or Eberle
NYI
20.
SEA
  1. Deangelo, Anthony
Additional Details:
Tony D is a douche
But hopefully he learned something on his time off

Its worth the gamble even if Seattle has to Bury him in the AHL until they can buy him out as he's still a top level talent with 53 points in 2019-20
NYR
21.
SEA
  1. Tierney, Chris
Additional Details:
Murray ,Brown and Dadanov were worth thinking about as OTT top options that arent UFA's but in the end Tierney made more sense

OTT was willing to let everyone exposed walk so there's no leverage to ask for a pick
OTT
22.
SEA
  1. van Riemsdyk, James
Additional Details:
PHI offered a 2nd to take Gostisbhere
Seattle Declined declaring its intent on picking a bonafide goal scorer
PHI
23.
SEA
  1. Tanev, Brandon
Additional Details:
PIT offer Petterson and a 3rd to take Zucker
Seattle Declined Countering with a 1st for selecting Zucker
PIT declined and talks ended
PIT
24.
SEA
  1. True, Alex [RFA Rights]
SJS
25.
SEA
  1. Dunn, Vince [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
STL called to offer Taresenko and 2nd to protect Dunn
Seattle Declined and ended trade talks
STL
26.
SEA
  1. Foote, Cal [RFA Rights]
  2. 2022 1st round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
TBL offers up a 1st in 2020 in order to protect Palat, Killorn ,and Gourde among others.

Cal Foote becomes the agreed upon selection
TBL
27.
SEA
  1. McCann, Jared
Additional Details:
TML offered a 3rd and Mcdermot to select Malgin
Seattle Declines and counters with a 2nd and Kerfoot to select Malgin.

Talks break down and MTL selects McCann
TOR
28.
SEA
  1. Holtby, Braden
Additional Details:
Zach MacEwan was really the only player worth selecting outside Holtby. Selecting Holtby makes the most sense whether he starts , gets flipped or buried the Gamble still has a higher upside with Holtby selected
VAN
29.
SEA
  1. Vanecek, Vitek
Additional Details:
essentially the only player worth picking which luckily for Seattle worked out as he's a solid young Goalie Prospect who would make a great Tandem Partner long term for Kahkonen but for now will play the 3rd goalie in Rotation. (similar to CAR set up)
WSH
30.
SEA
  1. Appleton, Mason
Additional Details:
Not the easiest Selection but close to it.
WPG had a few gambles to look at but in the end Appleton stood out by a country mile
WPG
31.
SEA
  1. Suzuki, Ryan
Additional Details:
CAR unites the Svechnikov's and get a depth LD 25 or under to replace Jake Bean they just lost.

As a Sabre fan nothing in what you are trying to trade for Eichel has value except the 2OA an that's not enough

Name someone who will give more then a #2 OA pick for Eichel
Maybe you get more but the Quality wont be there.

You could have a Generation D with your first Pick and a Center Projected as the next Dylan Larkin with your 2nd .
Its not like this is a bad draft as there's quality right down to the 6th Pick any team would covet.

I just dont remember the last time a Center of Eichels caliber got more then what i offered
I'll gladly stand corrected if you got 2 examples in Context where it has happened.

But out of curiosity what would do it for you ?

Joe Thornton Trade for Example
Similar age when traded

Brad Stuart
Wayne Primeau
Marco Sturm

That was the return
But he wasnt locked into a long term deal

Then i looked at Jeff Carter
Similar age when traded

Voracheck
8th OA Pick
68th OA Pick

Duchene deal i took a look at to for the 3 team aspect of it
Figured it might be a way to go

But finding a deal like that during the Expansion draft just didnt make sense
Its an extra 2 AHL prospects and a 3rd essential from what i offered for a better pick
Didnt seem worth the effort to go that route so i settled on this deal

At no point in history have i found more paid out then a #2 OA pick
infact i researched this for like an hour before i made the post.

Feel free to prove me wrong
But with Eichels situation rocky as he's wasted 6 seasons with no playoffs
Soon to be 25 he's about done with BUF management and Ownerships inability to ever find success in any decade

It doesn’t matter what Big Joe was traded for or Jeff Carter got traded for as that was 20 years ago for Jumbo Joe and over 10 years ago for Jeff Carter.
Buffalo says they want 4 assets and I’m thinking they would ask for Bean, Lauzon, 2nd overall and Appleton

Not even close for Eichel

And 2OA isn’t even that great of an asset in a weak draft

Easy pass…. EASY

I don’t know if I can agree that #2 overall pick is garbage and this year is a weak draft, Beniers is a good 2 way centre and Eklund was having good season on the SHL against men. This draft is unpredictable because a lot of players in Ontario couldn’t play at all and all over the world but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be like the Sedin draft where half the 1st rounders didn’t even play a 100 games and like 3 or 4 all star players and that’s it.

The easiest way to look at the Eichel deal: Buffalo would likely find more value in just getting 2OA and the 2nd than taking on a ton of mostly useless cap. Drouin and Holtby just aren't valuable at their cap hits (and Holtby is a blatant cap dump).

So the proposal arguably boils down to less than 2OA and a 2nd. Sabres are more likely to trade Eichel 1 for 1 for Turcotte or Zegras than do this. It's, in a word, terrible.

Heck thats it?

Sold

Those are all depth pieces with the exception of Bean which sucks to lose but can be replaced in free agency short term until they draft or acquire a replacement.
Lauzon and Appleton suck to give up but its something they can stomache

The issue we run into is 10m cap and you're only taking on 2m cap
Holtby has to go in the trade for this to work either that or Drouin or Anthinsiou instead of Appleton or Lauzon
But barring that being an issue sounds good

Easy solution is to keep Drouin
You see it that way , i dont think Seattle does especially given they got him for nothing
For them its a gamble worth taking but i get your point.

I took the above posters idea of Bean,Lauzon , Appleton , 2nd OA but had to leave Holtby in play for the cap to work.
He's over paid as a back up 100% but he's still not bad enough to buy out or bury given its 1 year left.
Outside Ullmark there's no real better goalies you skated last year with that much better numbers.

Ullmark , UPL and Holtby isnt worse then what they got going on
If anything its slightly better as it offers a Mentor who's won a Vezina and Stanley Cup for a season
It is a Cap Dump but its not like BUF is panicking on how to get rid of him

Better Return and a small 1 year cap dump doesnt seem like the end of the world if im BUF.
Could deffinately sell some Holtby Jersey's like MTL did Perry jersey's last year if you're lucky.
