If Hyman is offered 5x6, the Leafs should absolutely NOT match the offer. At this point, it makes no sense to resign Hyman. Nothing against him, he's one of my favourite Leafs and deserves every penny coming his way, but there is absolutely no way to justify signing a 29 year old Zach Hyman to an 8 year deal. Even a 5 year deal seems like a bit much considering his style of play. It's time to move on from Hyman. A player like Bunting doesn't replicate Hyman's style of play, but he is a netfront guy. I think the Leafs should pursue him instead. I sincerely hope Hyman cashes in on his next contract, but in a couple years people will look back at just how bad his contract will be. Also that Andersen contract is an atrocity

That's uhhhh...some interesting math...
Freddie: 8 x $2=16, $6 x 3=18. Aside from the difference in total money, it also means that Freddie doesn't have the opportunity for another contract down the road, unlike if he only signed for 2-3 years.
Hyman: $5 x 6=$30, $3.5 x 8=$28 Same deal here, Hyman would be 35 with a chance for another 2-3 years (maybe), vs. him being 37, so same deal.
