Let's go young...

Description
NJD makes a push for the playoffs trading excess picks for Smith and Nyquist

Chicago and Philadelphia get depth in the middle

NYR get wing depth. Hayes moves to 2C, Lindberg 3C, Sheahan would be 4C. They drop 10 spots from 25 to 35 in 2017 draft while picking up a 3rd. Then they get the higher of the 4th rd pics in 2018.

BOS gets blue line scoring depth. Cehlarik isn't a top end prospect. Liles is UFA.

The Wings are really, really young, especially on the backend. But they get a fair number of picks in the deals and a lot of cap room to make a run at someone in the offseason.

That New York trade is way lopsided and not even close. A 1C/2C and a first for next to nothing?

Zibanejad isn't a 1C. He's barely a 2C. Yes he's young but the Rangers are in win now, not in 4 years when Zibanejad is in his prime. Vanek makes them better this year. Hayes is better and Lindberg would be better on the 3rd line than 4th.

As for the draft picks, they move down 10 spots while picking up a 3rd this year. Then they have the option to swap 4th round picks next year if Detroits is higher.

Is it a great trade for NYR? No. It's not a great trade. There's a bit of risk but it's not a terrible one either.
