Easy no from Florida. Not taking on that cap hit and definitely not paying anything to do it.

The Panthers do not have a need nor a want for Schmidt. He has a bad deal and is not the top4 dman the Panthers are looking for

I have seen Schmidt play, in Vegas and Vancouver. His playing was not as impressive north of the border as in Sin City. He's a good player, however, he has a long deal which would make signing Barkov and Huby harder. There are cheaper options that get the same job done. Also, he is not an RHD, which means he would be playing in the third pairing behind Weegar and Forsling

Didn't you get him for a 3rd rounder? Why would've his value gone up after a down year?

He is a Left-shot, right-side D. Everyone and their dog knows that VAN got Schmidt for pennies on the dollar last year because VGK needed the cap space to sign Pietrangelo. Plus FLA was the team that VAN had to outbid to get Schmidt last year. Adding Schmidt and subtracting Gudas makes FLAs d-core better

Adding Schmidt and subtracting Gudas still leaves a hole in the Panthers' D in the 3 pair, so taking his cap hit is not worth it. They can get a 2nd pair dman from FA cheaper than 6M and they'd get to keep Gudas

Aren't you in a similar position with VGK? You need cap space for Hughes and Pettersson plus all your other expiring contracts. Trading Schmidt is a cap dump for you, he isn't going to fetch full price, not in a flat cap world.

No, look at this ACGM. Schmidt fits in the cap and everyone gets signed. Doesnt mean its the best play for VAN but its not the same situation

Schmidt's deal will still be around when those bridge deals expire lol. There are better and cheaper options for the Panthers than Schmidt

Noted that you don't think its a fit. If the return isn't a worse roster player + mid round pick or a couple of picks then its better for VAN to hold onto Schmidt. He is going to get the opportunity to play with Hughes for 82 games plus if it really comes to it buying out his last year (when the bridge deals are done) isnt too much of an expense.
