Sabres spent a 5th on Nilsson and he's been great for the Sabres (career year). You'll need more to buy him.

You might be right. But he's also a UFA this summer.

they don't need to sell him, they are still in the hunt, and can offer him an extension.

His $1m cap hit makes him worth quite a bit to a cash strapped contender that needs a backup upgrade. Dubnyk got a 3rd a couple years ago and he wasn't far removed from the scrap heap. Bryzgalov got a 4th a year before at the TDL. Both were cheap and UFA after the season too.

Duchene would command more.

I'd think the ask would be Puljujarvi + 1st + Jones or Bear. Might be too expensive.
