Description
I look at this roster and I’m disappointed with how similar it is to last year’s, but I really think that this is something that Dubas will do.

I think that his priority is finding a second goalie to be a tandem with Campbell and then work on everything else with whatever cap space is left.

With Bogo for sure not coming back, I think that they’re going to use that opportunity to give Lilly a shot, I truly think he’s ready for at least third pairing minutes (probably on a rotation with Sandin and Dermott, maybe even going 11-7 some games)

One thing I do like about the forward core is that it looks versatile at least on paper. I’m expecting Simmonds and Robertson to get at least some top 6 minutes at some point, Kerfoot can also drop down in the lineup if need be.

Unlikely Andersen returns, but there's absolutely no way he gets 4 X 5 Mil

I would take that with grain of salt. Can't see Dubas signing a guy with his history.

I guess it depends on what discount Freddy is willing to take. Both sides are still open for Business. But 5 M no way. Not even for one year. There are so many cheaper and more secure options on the market in this Free Agency.

Dubas will not change so much, that's right. But he has to fill the gap, Hyman will leave. And you don't do this with Kerfoot and Galch.

There are rumors for weeks now that TOR will bring in almost one big name - therefore you need Freddys money. Even if he could establish his performance years ago that is way to much money for a 1B Goalie.

I heard the rumor just now again. Bring in character to Toronto: fine. Bring in a bad character? Please not!

You truly think they don’t sign one free agent?

its a business first and foremost. imo even if dubas approached TDA, he'd say no.

Ok, so I’m seeing a theme here with the Fred and the 1b being the main topic.

First off, we won’t find a 1b for the same price as Campbell, I think it’s gonna cost at least $3 mil, which still doesn’t leave a ton of room to sign a big name FA without a trade (which it doesn’t look like Dubas will do). Next, I really think that Fred gets $5 mil in FA, so that’s what Dubas would probably have to go to. I doubt Fred would want to take a discount to stay unless it’s on a 1 year prove it deal because of how many people took him for granted while he was here. If it’s Fred or not it doesn’t matter, I really think that 1b slot is Dubas’ priority because Kerfoot has played top 6 wing (and looked pretty good at it), Robertson is coming up and we have seen Simmonds do well in the top 6 in the past, so I think it would be passible at least at the beginning of the season, then they would probably see who’s available and make a trade then. I don’t see them bringing in a FA d-man unless they trade Mo and bring in a big name like Hamilton, it sounds like they’re pretty set on their top 4 and bringing up Lilly (or maybe even a dark horse like Hollowell) which would save them significant cap.

And I named this “enjoy the chaos” because that’s exactly what’s gonna happen, absolute chaos. And sometimes you just have to look at what a mess it is and just enjoy how truly screwed every team is

Yeah it is the main topic for sure and the priority - Dubas made that very clear. I agree that you couldn't find a 1 B at Soup's small number - but "at least $3 mi" is not right IMO. Driedger signed for 3.5 M and he has the best numbers compared to any goalie on the market by far. There should be something possible in the range of 2 to 2.5 M.

After the early playoff exit I projected Freddie could sign for one more year with a haircut. Maybe half price. I don't think so anymore - this area is over unfortunately. I will miss the Freddie shouts at the Scotiabank arena. Also I would had love to see a healthy Anderson-Campbell-Tandem.
It's likely that he will get his 5 M elsewhere, maybe in Carolina due to rumors.

They should extend or trade Rielly now. But Dubas won't before the Free Agency and that could be a mistake.
