Description
Kuemper retained is the biggest part of this. Getting a goalie on a sub-$3M contract s key, as is moving out a bit of salary to round out the forward group. The suitors for Kuemper seem to be Carolina, Toronto and Philly (I dont see Edmonton or Colorado as real fits), so there's a good chance something gets done with a lower acquisition cost than it would've been last year. This lineup also relies on Foligno taking a big haircut to try again with the Leafs, but that's the only way he's coming back anyway. The contract for Suter may be too low, so just swap his name with Bunting and it will still fit. Granlund was a target before and I can see Dubas going back to him (like Brodie) as a 3C/2LW. The best thing about this lineup is flexibility - there are a lot of players who can play centre. or on the wing. Robertson and Anderson will still be in the mix to take ice time from Engvall, Simmonds or Spezza.

Kuemper without retention is worth a late 1st. Kuemper with retention is going to cost significantly more than what you're offering here.

With the moves that Arizona is making, they're signaling that they're entering a rebuild, so they're going to want teenagers, not guys like Dermott and Mikheyev that will be long gone by the time the Coyotes are ready to compete again.

The picks are the prize here and I don't think he's worth a late first at this point. Dermott is in there because the Coyotes need someone to play on their left side of defence this year and he's young enough that he could be a piece. Mikheyev, sure, that's more of a stretch.

I'd consider this return for Kuemper without retention. With retention, it's not enough.

I just noticed that both picks are in 2023. The 2nd round pick needs to be in 2022.

Turns out Kuemper is worth a 1st round pick and a quality defensive prospect.
