Could this team win a cup

Initial Creation Date: Jul. 27, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Explanations:

I assume Buffalo makes a move like Arizona has been doing, as in gathering assets by giving teams cap room. Since Komarov only has one year left at just $3 million, losing a third for a sixth seems reasonable for me.

Although I’d love Gabe Landeskog, years of rumors of big free agents coming to the Islanders, just for them to sign elsewhere have made me cynical (see: Artemi Panarin). I predict the Islanders settle for Landy’s teammate Brandon Saad, who can be a good, if not great replacement for Jordan Eberle and would be great with Barzal in my opinion.

I’ve heard the rumors that Pelech wants $7 million, but that’s not happening. I think 6 is more realistic. Also, I believe the rumors that Cizikas wants $5 million are incorrect, as I believe he told Seattle that he would only sign for $5 million if they selected him in the expansion draft. I imagine he takes a slight discount of $2.75 mil when he could likely get $3-$3.5 mil on the open market.

Palmieri did really well in the postseason and has showed signs of wanting to return, I imagine the Islanders bring him back for fairly short term at 3 years at his proper price tag of $4 million.

Can they win? Yes. But the contracts you handed our are incredibly low. Casey isn't settling for that little from 5m. Suter is likely going to get 4 years and up to 4 mil a year. Let's hope they find a way to get Suter Palms Parise and Casey but even that seems like a financial long shot.

I touched on that in the description. From what I’ve heard Cizikas told Seattle that it would take 5m for him to sign there if they took him in the expansion draft. I think the max anyone offers him on the open market is 3.5m, and I imagine the reason Lou Lamoriello protected Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck over Bailey and Eberle was to keep Cizikas’s line mates so he’s more incentivized to stay. Also, I highly doubt Suter gets 4x4 at 36 years old, but if a team signs him to that the Isles would have dodged a bullet IMO.
